The Chennai Super Kings is a franchise cricket team based in Chennai, Tamilnadu that represents Mumbai in the IPL. It was established in 2008 and became the home team to be hosted at M.A Chidambaram, Chennai. CSK suffered a two-year-long suspension starting from July 2015 for the alleged involvement of its owners in the 2013 IPL betting case. CSK then returned to the league with their third title overall in 2018-a record tie with the Mumbai Indians. The captain of the team is Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
According to the Brand Finance Report 2018, the Super Kings possess a brand value estimated at $65 million, thus being the most valuable franchise in the IPL.
This year, growth in television viewership boosted IPL stature by 11%. Hotstar live-streamed the tournament and saw an audience exceeding 200 million. Many cricket enthusiasts unable to procure tickets to these live events were given a chance to view the auctions in Fan Parks in select cities across a total of 36 cities in the country. Free and open to the public, the Fan Parks located at the forecourts were designed with music, entertainment, and food stalls to give all something to enjoy and aimed to replicate the stadium atmosphere to cities as never before,” adds the Report of Brand Finance.
